Cleaning Wire Systems

cleaning wire systems

General description

Cleaning wire systems are used on drawing, cold rolling and stretching machines to remove the calamine formed during the hot rolling process and the oxide from the wire surface caused by a prolongated exposition of the material with the air and humidity.

Cleaning wire systems are designed and tailored according to the customer target requirements in terms of cleanness and specific installation layout of the machines and customer company.

Our range of mechanical cleaning systems includes:

  • Vertical descaler machine
  • Horizontal descaler machine
  • Wiping Devices based on a combination of static and dynamic press
  • Devices with motorized abrasive brushes
  • Wire Orbital grinder equipped with abrasive belt

The vertical and horizontal descaler cleans the rod surface by eliminating the scale that is the surface oxide coating by means of alternate bending of the wire rod during its passage through different rolls positioned on different planes. They are composed of a rigid base and support, manufactured in steel on which are installed several rolls with anti-wear tungsten carbide insert long life use. They are totally closed, and the scale can be collected through a container present in the lower part of the descaler. The vertical type is used for wire rod up to a diameter of 8 mm and the position of the rolls are fixed while the horizontal model allow the entry of wire rod up to a diameter of 20 mm and the degree of descaling, given to the ability of two (2) adjustable rolls to penetrate the wire, can be regulated directly from the control pulpit thanks to the use of motorized screw-jack (an electrical sensor permits to record and recall by recipe the position of the rolls, setting them automatically). These devices are indicated for a first and rough cleaning of the scale.

The wiping devices based on a combination of static and dynamic press clean the wire surface trough the abrasive action of a high carbon sponge that feed the press. Normally this device is equipped with one (1) static press and two (2) dynamic press. In the static press the cleaning action is produced by the advancement movement of the wire rod trough the sponge (the wear of the sponge is compensated by the internal device of the press that continuously push the sponge on the wire rod surface). The dynamic press, are rotating press, where the cleaning action is produced by a combination of the advancement movement of the wire rod and the rotating movement of the sponge around the wire (thanks to the centrifugal force generated during the rotation the sponge is pushed continuously on the wire rod surface). The two (2) dynamic press rotates opposite verse one respect to each other (one clockwise and the other counterclockwise) and thanks to a function that allow to reverse the rotation, maintain the abrasive sharp during operation ensuring a better cleaning quality. These devices are indicated for a low-medium cleaning of the wire after the descaler device.

The devices with motorized abrasive brushes are made by two (2) or four (4) motorized rotating brushes mounted on an orbital head that rotate around the wire rod. The cleaning action produced by the abrasive brushes is due of a combination of the advancement movement of the wire rod, the orbital movement of the head and the rotation movement of the brushes. These devices are indicated for a low-medium cleaning of the wire after the descaler device.

The wire orbital grinder clean the wire rod surface using abrasive belts whose grain depend on the quality of the entry wire rod and the cleaning quality requested. The machine is made of a motorized orbital head that put in movement the abrasive belt and rotate around the wire rod surface. The abrasive cleaning action is a combination of the advancement movement of the wire rod, the rotating movement of the orbital head, the advancement movement of the belt and the grain size of the abrasive belt used. This device offers a valid alternative to chemical pickling processes therefore are recommended when a deeper cleaning is requested.
